Tile Roof Repair in Pompano Beach, FL

  • Typical cost: HomeGuide's tile guide puts most repairs between $500 and $2,500, with $1,500 as the national average.
  • Time on the roof: most roof repairs take anywhere from 30 minutes to a day, per HomeGuide's 2026 guide.
  • Minimum charge: some roofers won't book a repair under $300 to $500.
  • 25% limit: on roofs older than the 2007 code, fixing more than 25% of a section in 12 months means bringing the whole section up to code.

For broken or slipping tiles, Pompano Tile Roofing gets you a visit from a local tile roofer who finds the cause, replaces or resets the tile and checks the underlayment under it. Tile roof repair in the HVHZ still means product-approved parts and a City permit, even for a small job.

Tile Roof Repairs by Problem

Cracked and broken tiles

A crack is mostly a matching problem. A small chip or a cracked corner can sometimes be bonded with tile adhesive, but a tile split across its length or width comes out, and Florida's code bars reinstalling cracked tile. The hard part on an older Pompano Beach roof is a replacement that fits; roof tile replacement covers where matching and salvaged tiles come from.

  • Per tile: about $60 to $125 when nothing under the tile is damaged.

Slipped and loose tiles

Tiles slide when the fastener, mortar or adhesive under them lets go, often after high wind, heat or years of sun. The HVHZ code lets a foam- or mortar-set roof have no more than two loose tiles per 100 square feet, never side by side, so a whole run of loose tiles points to a bond that has given up. HomeGuide notes that many loose or slipped tiles can mean the roof is due for replacement.

  • Resetting slipped tiles: about $300 to $750.

Tiles broken by foot traffic and other trades

A lot of broken tile comes from people, not weather: AC techs, painters, satellite and solar installers. The Tile Roofing Industry Alliance advises stepping on the bottom 3 inches of a tile, where the tile below supports it, and spreading heel and toe across the high points of S-tile. It also says to keep off hips and valleys and to lay secured plywood over the tile when someone works on an adjoining wall. Most makers don't warrant foot-traffic breakage, so book the repair before the next rain.

Failed mortar and adhesive under field tile

Mortar is normal on Florida tile roofs, but the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance says humidity, strong UV and big temperature swings make it prone to cracking. When the bond under a tile fails, the tile rattles, slides or lifts in wind. In the HVHZ, any repair has to use product-approved components, including the foam adhesive or mortar. The ways tile can be attached are covered under tile roof installation.

Small underlayment patches

When a broken tile has been missing for a while, the underlayment under it is often torn or sun-baked. A patch means lifting the tiles around it, putting in new underlayment and relaying the same tile. HomeGuide prices that at about $650 to $1,400 per 100 square feet of tile roof. If the patch keeps growing, read tile roof underlayment replacement.

The 25% Rule for Tile Roof Repairs in Florida

The Florida Building Code limits a repair to 25% of a roof or roof section in any 12-month period. Go past that, and the whole section has to be redone to current code.

Since 2022, Florida Statute 553.844(5) carves out roofs built, repaired or replaced under the 2007 Florida Building Code or any later edition. On those, only the part being repaired has to meet today's code, whatever share of the roof it is. A local government can't amend that exception by ordinance. One Florida law firm reads the 2007-code cutoff as roofs permitted on or after March 1, 2009, but that's commentary, not code text. If you don't know when your roof was permitted, ask the City's Building Department.

Checking a Tile Repair Roofer Before Anyone Climbs Up

  • The license type

Florida licenses roofers through DBPR as certified (occupation codes starting with C, valid statewide) or registered (codes starting with R, valid only where registered). Roofing is "CC and RC".
  • The lookup

Search the name or number under "Verify a Licensee" at myfloridalicense.com before the visit.
  • Insurance

The City still requires a state license for code-regulated work, plus general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Ask for both certificates.
  • The permit

In the HVHZ a licensed contractor signs the roofing permit application for repairs too, so ask who is pulling it.
  • Photos

Ask for before-and-after photos of anything under the tile that you can't see from the ground.

Calling Pompano Tile Roofing is free, and the details you give reach a single roofer. See tile roof leak repair if water is already coming through a ceiling.

Frequently asked questions

Is one broken roof tile really a problem?

Yes, if it's left. A broken tile leaves the underlayment open to rain and to the sun's UV, and the underlayment is what keeps water out of the house. The Tile Roofing Industry Alliance says broken tiles should be replaced as soon as possible for exactly that reason.

Can a cracked roof tile be glued instead of replaced?

Only a small one. HomeGuide says tile adhesive can fix tiny cracks or a cracked corner, but a crack running the full length or width means a new tile. Florida's code also bars putting damaged, cracked or broken tile back on the roof, so a split tile can't simply be reset.

Can a handyman fix a loose tile in Pompano Beach?

Cost guides mention handymen for one loose tile, but the HVHZ rules are stricter. The Florida Building Code says roofing work in the zone is done by a contractor licensed for roofing, and repairs need a permit. Hire a licensed roofer even for a small fix.

Is it safe to walk on my tile roof to look at the damage?

It isn't a good idea. Tile breaks under a misplaced foot, most makers don't cover foot-traffic breakage, and falls are a real risk. The Tile Roofing Industry Alliance recommends a trained roofer for roof access. Take photos from the ground or a ladder at the eave instead.

How much does it cost to replace a single roof tile?

HomeGuide's range is $60 to $125 a tile when only the tile is involved. The catch is the minimum: some roofers charge $300 to $500 for any repair visit, so one tile rarely costs one tile's price. If the underlayment under it is damaged too, the bill goes up.
